THE PURPOSE OF GOD
The mission of the church, the body of Christ
Everything that is, all existence came out of God. There isn’t anything that you see, there isn’t anything that you feel, and there isn’t anything that is anything that didn’t come out of God. All life came out of God. God had a plan and a purpose for us even before he placed us here. If you can perceive it, I would like for you to see God made pregnant with His own Word. Parading Himself in the sight of Himself, God knowing that there was none besides Him, speaking within Himself to Himself, and stirring His thoughts among Himself, God speaks to open the womb of Himself. He said, “Let there be!” Then, out of the womb of God ushered everything that is.
All creation served its purpose for God. Then God said within Himself, “Let us make man in our image and our likeness.” And as long as man was within the thoughts of God, he behaved himself. But then God spoke the word and man became a living soul. And because man had a free will, he broke ranks with God and everything that God had made that was good. Because of man, all creation must suffer.
St. Paul , the Apostle seemed to have gotten a knack of finding out things from God through the spirit more than any of the others. He wrote to the Ephesians about what God’s ultimate intentions were. What is God up to, what is God doing, what is the end product of what is going on? So he writes to the Ephesians in chapter 1 and verses 9 and 10 and states what God intends to do. He says (v. 9) God has real pleasure in what he proposes to do. Whether we enjoy it or not. God is pleased with what He anticipates. And what He wants to do with the church is to bring it in on what it is He proposes to do. And to state to the church what its role is supposed to be in bringing about what it is He wants to get done. In fact, the church is the vehicle He intends to use to bring about His will.
What does God propose to do? Here it is! Ephesians 1:10; That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him. That’s what He aims to do. I will suggest to you that no matter who comes or goes, he still intends to do it.
Paul said the creation was made subject to bondage. But Jesus came and He became the door. That’s why we baptize in Jesus name. Because what God is doing is pulling all existence back into Himself. If you can get man back into Jesus Christ, you will have no problem with the weather, with the ozone, with pollution or with anything else. But you’ve got to get man back in there first. Our problem is, we’ve been trying to correct things without correcting man. And the more we correct one thing, the more man messes up another. He has been a famous messier upper since Adam. So it’s the job of the church to get him back into Jesus Christ so he wont mess up anymore. We were messier uppers too, but Jesus came and covered us with His love, stopped us from messing up because He gave us the earnestness of the Spirit and the power of the world to come. So we can help others to un-mess themselves.
That’s the duty of the church, the body of Christ, to go into the dying world and help folks un-mess themselves. The sooner we do this, the sooner the Lord can put in His appearance, and bring back everlasting righteousness.
Only by living in the power of an endless life can we work with Jesus in His church to the salvation of the souls of men.
